Wrap up from last session:
The support of the Fellowship and their efforts to deescalate tense situations allowed the town's volunteer militia captain, Tolme, to step up to a new role as town Constable. After getting the town's former elder under house arrest, he helped organize the rest of the militia to help defend against all the riled up undead.
The town militia formed a barricade at the bottom of the hill that lead up to the temple. Accompanied by Tolme, the party worked their way up the hill doing battle with a risen skeleton warrior and four shambling zombies. The fight was difficulty and Galivan lost the use of one of his legs when a zombies bite tore out a piece of the muscle.
Brollo was in the middle of the fray trying to stab some of the zombies, but mostly doing a better job at taking hits than giving them.
Tolme hung back to help man the barricades, but the Fellowship was undeterred. They rested for a moment to catch their breath, the Fellowship pressed on to find the source of the unrest among the dead. In the ruins of the old temple, they found the entrance to the undercroft. They followed the winding corridor with walls intricately carved with pictures. The walls were covered with a bioluminescent fungus that emanated cold as they they progressed deeper into the undercroft.
Between Session Character Scenes:
Shalya: "Brollo, don't take this the wrong way, but you a shitty with a knife. Take my sling and hang back from the fight next time. You're a talker not a fighter."
Brollo first took this as an insult from his cousin, but the earnestness in her eyes made him realize this was her way of saying please don't die foolishly, "Thanks, uh...I'll see if I can hurl some good trash talk while I'm slinging stones from a distance."
Session (8) Report
The corridor ends in a circular burial chamber with three sarcophagi set into alcoves along the wall. One ornate with two on either side, one of which was significantly smaller than the other. Beneath in sobbing was a semi-transparent form of a woman in an elegant dress, sobbing and muttering in a language none of them understood. Beside her and in front of the ornate sarcophagus was a medium sized brazier with a green flame burning inside it. The fumes of which immediately started to affect Galivan.
[Immediately the party wanted to see if they could remember anything about them, but Galivan has a stanky old wizard brain and lots of things slip his mind. He could tell she was someone fancy by her outfit, but no idea who she was. This was not new or helpful info to the group. So Galivan set about trying to figure out what the hell the magic in this room was doing and maybe why it had this affect on him.]
[There was a glyph on the brazier that only he could see, so he tried to see if he could remember what that glyph did, but again stanky old wizard brain and no luck. Meanwhile...]
Brollo took the lead looking to see if he could offer assistance to the woman. Shayla hung back in the hallway to comfort Grey Cat, hissed and put her ears back when she caught sight of the woman, refusing the enter the burial chamber.
"Excuse me, ma'am, but I see you're clearly suffering under some great sadness. Is there anything we might do to ease the burden of your sadness?" Brollo asked, hoping maybe there was some task that might move the spirit along.
The woman was started, but told the story of her husband deserting the army of his king when it was most needed in the Fourth Alder War. He was put to death as a traitor, but they killed her son as well. She needs justice brought to the Sorcerer Zygofer so she can rest.
"She lies," the voice that haunts Galivan's dreams echoed in his mind.
[Deciding that no half measure was gonna cut it, throwing caution into the wind, Galivan attempts to commune with the voice so that he can speak back to it. He summons a sphere of silence and invited the entity to him. The force with which the energy from the entity reached out into Galivan's mind was so strong it knocked several of his teeth out.]
[He spit them into his hand seeing his blood and hearing only his heartbeat he felt the hand of the entity reach slither into the back of his skull and tangle itself in his brain.]

Kena hung back to the side, observing the room, though when she laid eyes on the Count's sarcophagus, little else in the room could draw her attention away from the ornate exterior. {I bet someone with a coffin that fancy probably did something like buried themselves with a bunch of valuables} She was determined to use the strange silence to sneak over and slip her hand in to see what richest she might find.
Blinded by her desire to take the treasure, she did not see the crack in the floor that her foot slipped into that caused her to fall over. She was grateful for the silence so she did not hear the noise her ankle just made, but definitely felt it. Before she could even fully register what had happened, Shayla was grabbing her arm to heft her half over her shoulder and drag her out of the room. Meanwhile...
Galivan released the silence from the room and as the silence faded the sound of Brollo discussing the contract and rewards for this potential assassination the ghost wanted the group to do filled the room again.
Galivan gave Brollo a signal "no good" and he knew the plans had changed. Galivan signaled to him "smash and grab" while making a subdued gesture of his magic strike toward the sarcophagus to let Brollo know what was happening.
"Wheeeeelp," Brollo said as he stood up and slapped his knees in the process, "We ought to hit the road if we're gonna make good time. We-" he cut himself off and rushed toward the sarcophagus as Galivan began his spell.
The ghost of the Countess shrieked an unholy cry of anger as she rushed after Brollo. The magic strike blasted through the brazier and cracked the lid of the sarcophagus in half. A powerful blast of wind and magic energy exploded the lid in half, throwing Brollo to the back of the room with the blast.
The specter of Count Napola emerged and his shining presence filled the room. "URSALA BETRAYER!" the count unsheathed his semi-corporal blade and launched himself at her. Countess Ursala's arms had twisted themselves into demonic claws and she launched her self at the count.
Brollo dragged himself back to the hallway, addressing Grey Cat "We need the healer Nirvea to defeat the ghosts, bring her to us," before Shayla could even utter a word Grey Cat was bounding back down the corridor to the entrance, "We gotta keep this fight from spilling out into the town long enough for Nirvea to get her and banish the both of them."
Shayla nodded and pulled her hand ax from her belt, before positioning herself where the entrance. Galivan pushed himself to join the fray and attacked Ursala with his magic.
Grey Cat returned quickly with a slightly confused Nirvea. Brollo gave her a quick summary of what was happening "Undead caused by angry married couple. We gotta get rid of them both. Can you do that?" Nirvea understood and immediately began her incantation and drawing the symbol of Raven on the floor.
The activity drew the attention of Count Napola. A look of relief crossed his face, he moved toward Nirvea and the party, took a knee, and rested with the point of his sword held in the ground and his forehead on it's pommel.
Countess Ursala was decidedly less pleased about this. She bellowed in anger and charged Nirvea.
Shayla's eyes widened as she saw the Countess charge, she made a click noise with her mouth, turned slight and grabbed Grey Cat's mane as Grey Cat charged past, hoisted herself into the saddle, grabbed the semi-incorporeal sword of the Count and charged at the Countess.
The Countess's claw clashed with the sword and stabbed at Grey Cat as she tripped her. The blow didn't land, but it was enough to give Nirvea the time she needed.
"In the name of Raven who brought life to this land, I banish you to the shadows that pass beneath us. No longer honored with the light of the world given to us by Raven" her hands forma triangle in front of, her a holy gesture among the Raven Sisters, and from the tip of her fingers an light spread out enveloping the whole room. As the ghosts faded from this plane of existence the Ursala's cry of anger faded to nothing and the Count let out a sigh of relief for finally being granted the rest he had been denied for so long.
Session Wrap-Up
When the light of a new day shed it's light on the entrance of the burial chamber, the cold fungus withered and the sunlight seemed to be pulled into the intricate carvings of the corridor and burial chamber. They showed the story of the town ruled over by a kind and generous Count Nepola, it shows him refusing to go to war along with The Mad Spellbinder against the native non-humans in the Ravenlands.
It shows the slaughter of many at the hands of The Spellbinder. How after the dust settled, the people of the area worked together to build a temple and the undercroft as a resting place for the Count.
The team gathered the Count's circlet, the Countess's comb, and a gilded toy rattle from the sarcophagus. Kena had refused to leave the chamber without it "After ALL that there's no way I'm gonna leave this here."
When the Fellowship went back down the hill, all the other ghosts and undead in the area had left when the spirit of Napola was finally release. The people rejoiced and in celebration had created a hearty feast at dawn. They decided the 8th of Springrise would be a new town holiday: The Day of Quiet Graves. On this day forever onward, the town honors the dead and the four heroes on this day by staying up for an all night festival the culminates in a feast at dawn.
Over the next few days the Fellowship, helped the newly formed town council (Yawen owner of the Three Skull Brewery and Tavern, Tolme the new town sherif, Lucy the baker's wife and Matron of the Estate, and Olm the owner of the Dead Man's Hand Inn). The council's first act was to rename the town New Hollowreach.
Kena's guilt got the better of her and without the rest of the Fellowship's input gave the crown to the town council as a symbol for the new town's identity. United, unbroken, and equal in all directions.
The End
